2013 Orange Bowl update: Florida State, NIU uglyfest reaches halftime

ESPN

Is Florida State on upset alert in the Orange Bowl? No. That is your stomach.

Can NIU hang with Florida State? Will FSU even care enough to show up? The answers to these questions appear to be, "Sort of," and, "For the most part."

It's 14-3, FSU, at the half, but according to the numbers, it should be so much worse for the underdog Huskies. FSU's outgained NIU, 328 yards to 110, with nine more first downs and a much more varied suite of offensive contributors -- NIU's run exactly two plays through someone besides Jordan Lynch, one of which was a fake punt.

Other than that fake, FSU has completely locked down its MAC opponent. The problem has been FSU's own offense, which has put up lots of yards but has had trouble stringing them together. The Noles have converted just one third down.

One thing that is going fine: Rashad Greene's left foot, which tapped the paint in the end zone just before the half to make that Florida State lead look like something actually considerable. A perfect catch, and a nearly impossible throw by E.J. Manuel to defend. It was by far the prettiest play of the game so far, in case you're a person who prefers to look at things that are pretty to things that are frustrating and horrible.
