Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o is conducting an off-camera interview with ESPN, according to Josh Krulewitz, a PR guy for the network, via Twitter. Krulewitz also Tweeted that the interview will be part of the evening edition of Sports Center following the televised NBA game.
The Tweets note that the interview does not include video and, as of a few minutes before posting, was still going on.
Deadspin broke the story that Te'o's deceased girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, was in fact, not deceased or rather, was never alive. She was an invention of somebody, perhaps Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, a friend of Te'o's, or even an invention of Te'o himself.
Regardless, Te'o and Notre Dame released statements after the report from Deadspin, claiming that Te'o was the victim of a hoax and was led to believe that Kekua was a real person over the course of their "relationship." You can find SB Nation's stream tracking all of the developments here.
This is the first time that Te'o is actually speaking outside of his prepared statement.
