The Florida Gators will meet Teddy Bridgewater and the Louisville Cardinals in 2013 annual Sugar Bowl on January 2.
Looking to reach 12 wins for the first time since the Tim Tebow era, the Florida Gators will square off with the Louisville Cardinals on Wednesday in the 79th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl.
The Gators capped off an impressive regular season with a 37-26 win over rival Florida State in Tallahassee, but still did not wind up representing the division in the SEC title game due to a disastrous midseason loss to Georgia. Florida will bring a defense that ranked third in the country with just 12.9 points allowed per game during the year, and will hope to once again rely on the legs of senior tailback Mike Gillislee on the other side of the ball. The 5'11", 209-pound runner racked up 1,104 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground in his first full season as a starter, and has been easily the most consistent producer for Will Muschamp's offense in 2012.
Led by sophomore quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, the Cardinals will hope to overcome a significant 13-point spread from oddsmakers coming into Wednesday's contest. Along with tossing 25 touchdowns compared to just seven interceptions during the season, Bridgewater posted a 69% completion percentage and 161.6 quarterback rating. The young quarterback did not throw a touchdown pass in his only game against an SEC opponent (Kentucky) however, and will likely need to find the end zone a few times on Wednesday in order to pull the upset.
