2013 BBVA Compass Bowl results: Ole Miss blows out Pitt, 38-17

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

The Rebels ran for over 200 yards against the Panthers, putting an exclamation point on a surprisingly good season.

Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns as the Rebels defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers 38-17 in the 2013 BBVA Compass Bowl.

The Rebels got off to a fast start in the first quarter, building a 14-0 lead on two touchdown passes from Wallace to Ja-Mes Logan and Randall Mackey. Pitt would answer back with a touchdown pass from Tino Sunseri to Devin Street, but Ole Miss built their lead to 24-10 at halftime. The second half didn't change much for either team, as Barry Brunetti and I'Tavius Mathers chipped in rushing touchdowns for the Rebels.

The win pushes Ole Miss to 7-6 for the 2012 season, their first winning season (and bowl win) since 2009.

Pitt has now participated in the last three BBVA Compass Bowls, defeating Kentucky in 2011 before losing to SMU in 2012 and Ole Miss in 2013.

Box Score Hero: Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace did a lot of the heavy lifting on Saturday, going 22 of 32 for 151 yards and three touchdowns. He did throw two picks, but they didn't end up hurting the team very much. Honorable mention has to go to I'Tavius Mathers, who rushed for 96 yards on only six carries.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team will factor into the final top 25 polls.

But Did They Cover? Ole Miss entered the game as four-and-a-half point favorites, and covered with ease.
