Alabama muffs punt, Pac-12 refs make questionable fair catch call

Stay connected with SB Nation

You can decide for yourselves whether the Notre Dame player interfered with the Alabama player.

It's always a fun time when Pac-12 officials are in the mix, especially on the big stage. A play after making a controversial incomplete call on what looked to be a great effort by Tyler Eifert to get his feet down in bounds, Alabama muffed a punt and Notre Dame recovered.

The only problem? The officials called fair catch interference.

The bright lights shouldn't have an effect on the officiating, but those zebras are people too. While there is a case to be made that the punt team can't get that close (halo rule), this is a pretty hard sell. Alabama is already an elite team; if they're going to get the 50-50 calls too, the Fighting Irish are going to need a lot more than Touchdown Jesus to beat Saban's Process.
