It's currently 28-0, is what I'm saying. This is getting ugly. Like, uglier than the average Notre Dame or Alabama game.
The Alabama Crimson Tide lead the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 28-0, at halftime. Those who expected this game to be a repeat of Bama-LSU were correct, so long as they were not referring to those games that did not feature the score 21-0 at any point.
Going into the break, Irish coach Brian Kelly was asked by ESPN what can be done in the second half. He paused. "It's all Alabama," he offered.
Alabama has 309 yards worth of offense against the nation's No. 6 total defense. Notre Dame has 124 for the entire half. I believe the above GIF to be the definitive image of this game -- Heisman finalist Manti Te'o is completely helpless against one-man juggernaut Eddie Lacy, who's rocked his way to 113 total yards, including a touchdown on the ground and another through the air. Te'o has been all but unheard from tonight.
A.J. McCarron has been smooth and painless, throwing for 156 yards on 18 attempts, while Everett Golson has gotten just about nothing accomplished (93 yards on 16 attempts). The Notre Dame gameplan has been curious: attack All-America cornerback Dee Milliner on just about every drive. It has not worked.
Making matters even more disastrous: stud defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore appears to be done for the Irish after suffering an awkward knee injury just before the half. He ranked third for Notre Dame in tackles for loss on the season.
