A week after being named the No. 1 team in the BCS standings, the Alabama Crimson Tide came out and made a statement against Tennessee. In what was a truly dominant performance, Alabama knocked off the Vols, 45-10.
A.J. McCarron got things going on the first drive of the game as he connected with Amari Cooper for a 54-yard touchdown strike. On their next possession, T.J. Yeldon bulldozed his way into the end zone from a yard out to push the lead to 14-0. After another touchdown throw from McCarron and a Yeldon rushing TD, Landon Collins picked off an errant throw from Justin Worley just before the half and took it 88 yards to the house to give the Crimson Tide a 35-0 lead.
Alabama didn't punt the ball until midway through the third quarter. The Volunteers just didn't have any answers for their SEC West rivals until garbage time came around.
And according to Third Saturday in October tradition, some in the recently criticized student section lit up stogies:
Box Score Heros/Zeros:
AJ McCarron: 19/28, 275 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT
Kevin Norwood: six receptions, 112 yards, 1 TD
Justin Worley: 8/15, 120 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT
Rankings Ramifications: Even with Florida State putting a whooping on North Carolina State, the Crimson Tide should hold firm at No. 1 in the BCS standings when they are released on Sunday. If Alabama can win out, they'll be headed to the national title game once again.
But Did They Cover? Alabama came in as a 28-point favorite. Most sites had the over/under set at 49 or 50 points.
Next Week's Schedule:
Alabama: 11/9, vs. LSU, time TBD
Tennessee: 11/2, @ Missouri, time TBD
