If you're a head coach and your athletic director has to publicly state his support for you, things probably aren't going too well for you. Such is the case for Florida head coach Will Muschamp, who received what has been known as the dreaded vote of confidence from Athletic Director Jeremy Foley Wednesday.
"As athletic director, I'm a thousand percent convinced that Will Muschamp is the guy to lead this football program,'' Foley said inside his office at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. "Nothing has changed in what we feel about Will Muschamp from the day we hired him.
In an added twist, Foley actually mentioned the DVoC, saying "this is not the quote-unquote dreaded 'vote of confidence.'"
After a 7-6 first season for Florida under Muschamp, the Gators had a promising year two with an 11-2 record and a Sugar Bowl appearance. This season, Florida has struggled, with a 4-5 record, a loss to Vanderbilt, and a bowl berth looking unlikely with two top ten teams remaining on the schedule.
On our hot seat watch earlier this week, Muschamp was given a rating of "muy caliente" along with Virginia head coach Mike London. At Team Speed Kills, Year2 pointed to offensive depth as the biggest problem for Florida during Muschamp's tenure. At Alligator Army, FlaGators said that fans must keep the unusual amount of injuries in mind when diagnosing Muschamp's ability as coach.
