The Wisconsin Badgers had no trouble doing away with the Indiana Hoosiers at home on Saturday, blowing them out 51-3. The Badgers rushed for 554 yards as a team, which calculates to 11.1 yards per carry. Not too shabby.
The blowout was underway quickly. James White scored on a 93 yard touchdown run up the middle on Wisconsin's first play from scrimmage. Melvin Gordon would score one himself less than two minutes later, giving the Badgers a 14-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. Add two Jack Russell field goals before the end of the quarter, and the game was effectively over after 15 minutes.
Wisconsin kept it on the ground all day, and it worked all day. Wide receiver Jared Abbrederis had two rushing touchdowns of his own from 32 and 49 yards out, and Corey Clement added another two scores in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Joel Stave barely had to do anything but turn around and hand the ball off.
Indiana could only manage 224 yards of total offense, and turned the ball over twice. The Hoosiers have been considerably better than that this year, but this game doesn't really show it.
Box Score Hero:
James White led the way for the Badgers with 205 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, but Melvin Gordon and Jared Abbrederis also deserve a nod. Gordon had 146 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, and Abbrederis added 88 yards and two scores on 9 carries. Corey Clement also came in and had 108 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries in mop-up duty.
Wisconsin came into this game at 22nd in the latest BCS standings, and they should be able to climb with the win.
But Did They Cover?
The Badgers were 27 point favorites by kickoff, so they covered the spread.
