It's that time of year, folks. SEC teams eschew conference play to take on an FCS patsy, and it starts at the top. The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Chattanooga Mocs at 2 p.m. ET Saturday.
Chattanooga may be a patsy by Alabama's standards, but they are certainly a solid FCS team. They're 8-3 on the year, with a win over FBS team Georgia State and a 6-2 record in conference play. That currently puts them on top of the Southern conference, but a loss to Samford means that if the Bulldogs beat Elon Saturday (as they are expected to do), the Mocs will have to hope for an at-large bid for the FCS playoffs.
The Tide look on track for the BCS title game, with only Chattanooga, Auburn and the SEC championship in the way of them and a third straight title appearance.
Rankings and records: Alabama is the top team in the nation. The Crimson Tide are 10-0 this season, with a 7-0 record in SEC play. Chattanooga is 8-3 on the year, with a 6-2 record in the Southern conference (good for first place).
Vegas: There is no line for this game.
Weather: High 50s and showers.
Three names to know
C.J. Mosley. The Alabama linebacker is one of the best in the country and hits harder than nearly anyone in the nation.
T.J. Yeldon. The Tide's running back is tough to bring down and should see a lot of carries early in this one.
A.J. McCarron. Alabama's quarterback is a fringe Heisman contender, and there's a chance he could improve his stock if he puts up big numbers in this game.
Two things at stake
A loss for Alabama would knock them out of the BCS hunt and be the most embarrassing defeat in school history.
A win for Chattanooga would be the biggest upset in football history, most likely.
