Fresno State, ranked 16th in the BCS, is hoping to play in a BCS bowl game this January. If they're able to knock off San Jose State on Friday afternoon and then win the Mountain West Conference Championship Game, there's a good chance the Fiesta Bowl could come calling.
That being said, the Bulldogs still have to take care of business before they think of a perfect season. SJSU comes in with a 5-6 record, but with two of their last three losses coming by six points or fewer, this is hardly a team to take lightly. This game will serve as a Super Bowl of sorts for the Spartans, and they'd like to do nothing more than end Fresno State's undefeated run.
Rankings and records: These two schools have played nearly every year since the 1920s. Fresno State leads the all-time series 39-34-3, winning 18 of the last 21 meetings. SJSU did win last year, though, 27-24.
Vegas: Fresno State is a 7.5-point favorite, with an over/under of 71.5 points.
Weather: It should be a beautiful day for football with temperatures in the 60s at kickoff.
Three names to know
Derek Carr - The best quarterback in the country who never gets any media attention, Carr has put up video game numbers this season. He's completing 70 percent of his throws, has thrown for 3,948 yards and has racked up 41 total touchdowns.
Davante Adams - Carr's favorite target is Adams, who is putting up video game numbers himself: 100 receptions, 1,213 yards, 19 touchdowns.
David Fales - Fales was supposed to have a monster season for San Jose State. While his numbers are still impressive -- 3,642 passing yards, 27 TD, 13 INT -- his knack for giving the ball up has really hurt the Spartans. If they hope to pull the upset, Fales will have to play close to a perfect game.
Two things at stake
A win would keep Fresno State in the hunt for a BCS bowl game.
A win for San Jose State would push them to .500 and would also be a huge momentum booster for first-year coach Ron Caragher.
