Mike Sanford, Marcel Yates leaving Stanford, A&M for Boise State

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

New head coach Bryan Harsin is putting together an impressive group of young assistants to aid him as he takes over the Broncos.

Bryan Harsin is wasting no time putting together a staff of top-flight assistants and coordinators as the new head coach at Boise State. On Wednesday, it was reported Mike Sanford will be leaving Stanford to become the next offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Boise, while Texas A&M defensive coordinator will be leaving the Aggies to take the same position with the Broncos.

Sanford, 31, is regarded as a rising star on the coaching circuit. He's also one of the better recruiters on the west coast. A former quarterback himself, he spent last season coaching the quarterbacks and wide receivers at Stanford while working as the recruiting coordinator in previous years. The Cardinal have ranked as one of the nation's top rushing teams the last few years, and it will be interesting to see if Sanford implements a similar power run game in Boise.

Here's video of Sanford at practice:

Yates has spent the last two years working as the co-defensive coordinator at Texas A&M after serving nine seasons at Boise State as the defensive backs coach from 2003-2011. He worked alongside Harsin from 2006-2010 when he was the offensive coordinator for the Broncos. He is also regarded as a strong recruiter.

"Being able to bring a coach, and person, of high quality like Marcel to our program is a home run," Harsin said. "We worked and played together at Boise State, and he is one of the sharpest defensive minds in the country."
