Navy, MTSU players downed in scary Armed Forces Bowl collision

Lonnie Richardson and Marcus Henry were both down on the field for several minutes.

A collision over the middle of the field in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl left two players down on the field for several minutes at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.

Navy safety Lonnie Richardson delivered a vicious hit on Middle Tennessee State wide receiver Marcus Henry over the middle late in the second quarter, leaving both players on the field. Richardson was helped off the field, while Henry was able to walk off the field on his own power. George Jamison is expected to fill in for Richardson, coach Ken Niumatalolo told ESPN.

Richardson is in the game as a replacement for starting safety Wave Ryder, who was ejected earlier due to a targeting penalty. The game has been a chippy one, with multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in the first half. Navy holds a 10-6 lead at halftime.

During the regular season, Richardson recorded 23 tackles, forcing one fumble. Henry is the Blue Raiders' second-leading receiver, with 36 catches for 528 yards and three touchdowns.
