Tyler Johnstone injury: Oregon starting LT out of Alamo Bowl

Otto Greule Jr

The Ducks lost their starting left tackle to a right knee injury in the second quarter of the Alamo Bowl.

Tyler Johnstone, the starting left tackle for the Oregon Ducks, injured his right knee during the second quarter of the Alamo Bowl on Monday night. He will not return to the game, per Gary Horowitz.

Johnstone appeared to injure his knee while attempting to recover a Marcus Mariota fumble. He fell to the ground and immediately grabbed at the kneecap area, throwing off his helmet in disgust. The Oregon training staff attended to Johnstone for a couple of minutes before finally helping him off the field. He was shown receiving treatment on his knee behind the bench and was later shown on crutches.

Everett Benyard, a senior reserve who appeared in all 12 of Oregon's games this season, replaced Johnston at left tackle.

Johnstone was the anchor for the Ducks' offensive line this season. He was a Freshman All-American last year and received an honorable All-Pac-12 mention for his work along the line in 2013.
