Auburn 'spice' story airing on ESPN's E:60, university has prepared response

John David Mercer-US PRESSWIRE

ESPN's taking another crack at this.

Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET, ESPN will advance its Auburn "spice epidemic" story on E:60. According to Matt Scalici, it'll air along with a story about Alabama running back Eddie Lacy. (It'll also air on the same day as Auburn's treasured Toomer's Corner oak trees were taken down, but television's like that sometimes.)

Former head coach Gene Chizik was interviewed for the story, and a source tells SB Nation that Auburn independently recorded his interview. As part of its prepared response, the university will release the video in full if it feels any of his remarks are taken out of context.

The first go-round for the spice story did not go well at all, with nearly every claim made by reporter Shaun Assael being quite easily disproven. That report came out during 2013's unofficial Auburn Scandal Week, arriving a day after Selena Roberts' Roopstigo report, which alleged everything from meddling in a police investigation to paying players to changing grades. Auburn disputed just about every claim made in both reports, and many of the key figures in the Roberts report have either walked back their comments or claimed misquotations.

I'm not sure what new information about the synthetic marijuana story the E:60 showing will include.
