UCLA and athletic director Dan Guerrero have agreed to a contract extension through 2019, according to an announcement from the school.
The extension comes as a surprise, as many thought that Guerrero was on thin ice. The football program has floundered for years after a series of questionable hires, especially in comparison to crosstown rival USC. However, the Bruins rebounded in 2012 under new head coach Jim Mora, winning the Pac-12 South.
The basketball program, which is one of the most storied programs in all of college sports, has also fallen from their perch. The school parted ways with head coach Ben Howland after a stretch of disappointing seasons, replacing him with New Mexico's Steve Alford, a move that was met with much criticism.
SB Nation's UCLA blog, Bruins Nation, posted a story titled "Inside the Mind of a Lazy Bureaucrat," which details just how dissatisfied they are with Guerrero's leadership. It went online less than an hour before the extension announcement. You probably don't have to guess how they feel about it.
