Penn State quarterback Steven Bench has plenty of transfer options to BCS schools this offseason. that Bench is looking at three schools at this point: the Mississippi State Bulldogs, North Carolina State Wolfpack and South Florida Bulls, Joe Schad of ESPN reports
South Florida is probably the school with the most wide-open quarterback competition. The Bulls were in the running to land Florida State transfer Clint Trickett, but he ended up choosing West Virginia. That leaves only Bobby Eveld (who was not impressive in his performances last season against FBS competition) and true freshman Mike White on the South Florida roster.
Mississippi State will likely have Tyler Russell as its starting quarterback after he broke several passing records last season, so Bench would have to unseat Russell from the starting position.
N.C. State is the newest school to throw its hat into the ring. Jacoby Brissett recently transferred from Florida but will have to sit out the 2013 season due to the NCAA one-year transfer rules. That leaves Pete Thomas and Manny Stocker as the options for the Wolfpack, and Dave Doeren has been less than complimentary about both options.
Bench would be eligible to play immediately in the 2013 season due to the sanctions leveled at the Penn State football program.
