Arrion Springs commits: Top cornerback picks Oregon over Texas

Wescott Eberts, SB Nation Recruiting

Arrion Springs showed why he's a top-ten cornerback in the country with a 4.44 40 time at The Opening, and now, the speedster is going to a team that appreciates speed: the Oregon Ducks.

Defensive back Arrion Springs pledged to play his college football for Oregon at The Opening on Tuesday, giving the Ducks their seventh commit of the Class of 2014.

Springs, out of Roosevelt High School in San Antonio , is listed as a consensus four-star cornerback by the major recruiting services. ESPN ranked him as the No. 7 player at his position, while 247 Sports, Scout and Rivals list him at Nos. 8, 12 and 26, respectively.

The 5'11 Springs weighs in at 192 pounds and runs a reported 4.48-second 40-yard dash. With his impressive skill set, he garnered 27 offers from major schools across the country, but chose the Ducks over Texas.

SB Nation recruiting guru Bud Elliott says Springs is one of the best defensive back recruits in the class, but there's room for improvement:

Some defensive back coaches prefer big, strong, physical safeties. For those who prefer more scheme versatility, players like Springs become top targets. Capable of running the alley in run support and manning up on the best receivers from other teams, the San Antonio product has the overall speed to play cornerback in college, though his technique, particularly his footwork, needs some refinement.

The Opening is a camp that features the nation's top prospects and is held at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. Springs had proved his reputation as a blazer at The Opening, posting a 4.44 40 time.
