Biggest position question marks?

Despite not having his best season last year, Matt Barkley's departure is a major issue for USC heading into 2013. Max Wittek, Max Browne, and Cody Kessler are all vying for the starting quarterback job, and with the Trojans closing practice to the media, it'll be tough to tell who the starter will be until either Lane Kiffin talks about it or someone starts taking snaps in the first game.

Ohio State lost all four of its starting defensive linemen from 2012, which is a huge deal for a team with national championship aspirations. There are talented players ready to step up, including Adolphus Washington, Tommy Schutt, and Noah Spence, but until you see them perform in games, it's tough to say for sure how the Buckeyes will hold up in the trenches.

Florida State is positioned well to make another run at the ACC title and has an outside shot at a national title run as well, but it'll need a seamless transition from new Buffalo Bill E.J. Manuel to freshman Jameis Winston for that to happen. Winston has all the talent in the world, but is lacking in experience. He'll get his shot though.

Can new coaches hit the ground running?

Mark Helfrich and Gary Andersen are both taking over at programs with major aspirations in Oregon and Wisconsin, respectively. The Ducks are legitimate national title contenders, and the Badgers have been to three straight Rose Bowls. If they can transition into their new jobs smoothly, there's no reason to think their teams will perform poorly.

Down in the SEC, the two biggest changes are at Arkansas and Auburn. Bret Bielema left Wisconsin to take over the Hogs, a move that shocked most college football observers. He has a long track record of stability and success, which is exactly what Arkansas needs after the mess created by Bobby Petrino's ouster and John L. Smith's one season in charge. Gus Malzahn is back at Auburn after spending a year at Arkansas State, and many of the players recruited to play in his system still remain. The Tigers were a dismal 3-9 last year, but could find a quick turnaround if they can readjust to his system.

Will acting like a college student this offseason come back to hurt Johnny Manziel?

A whole lot of column inches were dedicated to the Heisman Trophy winner's antics this summer, if you want to call them that. If he comes out and plays poorly early in the preseason, you can expect to see a whole bunch of crowing about how he doesn't take football seriously enough. Please play well, Johnny.

Which freshmen will make an instant impact?

It's tough for a true freshman to step in and make a big impact right away, but there are a couple that have a good chance to do just that. Ole Miss defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, Alabama tight end O.J. Howard, and Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg could be among the rookies with starting jobs by the end of August, but high star ratings won't guarantee them anything.

What are you most looking forward to learning in August?
