The Pittsburgh Panthers open fall camp on Tuesday, and the teams practiced for the first time on fields named for the late Beano Cook, longtime ESPN commentator and Pitt alum.
On 1st day of football camp, Beano's memory & spirit are very much alive at Pitt. New signage a vivid reminder. pic.twitter.com/dYFaYUCGrK— Pitt Football (@GoPittFootball) August 6, 2013
Cook grew up in Pittsburgh, and graduated from Pitt in 1954. He went on to work in the college football media in various capacities, but most notably for ESPN from 1986 until he passed away in October, 2012.
