Former NBA star Charles Barkley, who played his college hoops at Auburn, is an avid supporter of his Tigers, and he's never been one to deny his good-natured hatred for the Alabama Crimson Tide. But thanks to the on- and off-field antics by Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, Sir Charles is considering the unfathomable: saying "Roll Tide."
Barkley made a radio appearance on Waddle and Silvey on ESPN 1000 Chicago on Tuesday, and as noted by al.com's Mark Heim, the current NBA analyst for TNT expressed his annoyance regarding Manziel.
"Johnny Manziel, he's doing something I never thought was possible," Barkley said. "He's going to make me root for Alabama this weekend. I never thought I would say those words. I am so close to saying 'Roll Tide.' Johnny Manziel is annoying me so much. I'm really close to saying 'Roll Tide.'"
"I just think that Johnny Manziel has done a lot of stupid stuff in the last three or four months."
Well, Barkley has never been one to mince words. If he's actually considering rooting for the Crimson Tide, the Heisman Trophy winner must have really pushed him over the edge. Knowing the damage his comments could do to the psyche of Auburn fans, Barkley tried to explain himself.
"They're not going to be happy. But let me tell you something. Johnny Manziel, oh my God, the only thing saving Manziel is Miley Cyrus."
War Eagle, Sir Charles.
