Gary Nova injury: Rutgers quarterback leaves game with undisclosed injury

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Nova hadn't thrown an incomplete pass at the time of his injury.

Gary Nova, the starting quarterback for Rutgers, left Saturday's game against Eastern Michigan in the first quarter after being roughed up a bit.

It is unclear what kind of injury he sustained prior to heading to the locker room with team trainers, though it did appear he took a pretty good shot to the chin from an EMU defender's helmet. Prior to getting hurt, Nova was a perfect 4-for-4 on his pass attempts for 44 yards and had the RU offense rolling.

The Scarlet Knights entered the game as pretty heavy favorites over Eastern Washington, though they hold just a 14-10 lead midway through the second quarter. With a big showdown against Arkansas looming next week, it will be interesting to see how the coaches and training staff handle Nova's injury if he's able to play at less than 100 percent (In related news, Arkansas also lost their starting QB to injury on Saturday afternoon).

Second-string quarterback Chas Dodd came in relief of Nova. Dodd was the Scarlet Knights' starter back in 2010 and 2011, though he seldom played last season. He hadn't taken a snap in 2013 before Saturday's game.
