College football Coaches Poll Top 25, Week 6: Georgia to No. 6, Oklahoma to top 10

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Lots of movings and shakings in the Coaches' Poll after a week with four matchups between ranked teams.

Georgia climbs to No. 6 while LSU falls to No. 11 after the Bulldogs' home win over the Tigers, but the big story is the state of Oklahoma. The Cowboys dropped quite a ways after their loss to unranked West Virginia, allowing in-state rivals Oklahoma (who beat Notre Dame) to pass them in the poll.

Ole Miss, Notre Dame and Wisconsin all dropped as well after losses to higher-ranked opponents. Joining are NIU, Arizona State, and Nebraska.

Alabama holds on to the top spot after a convincing win over the Rebels, with Oregon and Clemson right behind after dominating victories of their own.

The Coaches' Poll does matter, even though it probably shouldn't. The people who are supposed to vote on it (the coaches) have no time to watch other games, as they are coaching their own team on Saturdays (and the rest of the week). The people who do vote on it (media relations staff) also have no time to watch other games, as they too work during their team's games.
