There were just two games on Friday night across the college football landscape, and neither one was exactly a close contest.
Boston College 24, Wake Forest 10
Conference play kicked off for Boston College and Wake Forest, and it was the Eagles who came out on top with a 24-10 win. Andre Williams led the way for BC with 204 rushing yards and a touchdown, averaging nearly six yards per carry. Quarterback Chase Rettig was also solid, throwing for 123 yards and a touchdown. After getting off to such a slow start against Villanova in the season opener, the blowout win was a much-needed confidence booster for the Eagles.
After scoring an early touchdown in the first, the Demon Deacons were unable to move the ball with any kind of efficiency. As a team, Wake Forest carried the ball 39 times for just 55 yards. Quarterback Tanner Price threw for 191 yards and a touchdown, but was unable to put together any kind of drive in the second half.
Central Florida 38, Florida International 0
Down in Florida, the UCF Knights made quick work of Florida International, picking up a 38-0 win to improve to 2-0 on the year. The final outcome was never really in question; UCF took an early 7-0 lead and never looked back, extending its lead to 28-0 by halftime and cruising in the second half.
Running back Storm Johnson was the story of the game, carrying the ball 18 times for 89 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Blake Bortles did a nice job managing the offense all night long and picked up a couple of lengthy third down conversions to keep things rolling. Bortles ended the night going 12 for 19 for 214 yards and one touchdown pass.
Florida International ended the game with just 172 yards of total offense. The loss drops the team to 0-2 this season.
