Texas using 8-person search committee to find next football coach

That's so Texas. So, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so Texas. And this comes after athletic director Steve Patterson said last week that he'd be the in charge of the hire. While this doesn't rule out Patterson making the final call, it doesn't inspire any confidence in the process being orderly and leak-free. Also, it's supposed to last at least a few more weeks. Those panelists, by the way: Michael Clement (accounting professor), Steve Hicks (regent), Ricardo Hinojosa (federal judge), Charles Matthews (general counsel, Exxon Mobil), Robert Rowling (former regent), Robert Stillwell (regent), Charles Tate (chairman, Capital Royalty), and Pamela Willeford (former U.S. ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein).

Mack Brown to be special adviser at Texas til 2020

Mack Brown will serve as a special adviser to University of Texas president Bill Powers until 2020, according to comments made by his lawyer, Joe Jamail, and reported by Kirk Bohls of the Austin American Statesman.

Further details on this arrangement have yet to be released, although it does indicate that Brown's relationship with Texas will not be over any time soon. Ending months of wild speculation about his job security, Brown announced earlier on Saturday that he would be stepping down as head coach following the team's Alamo Bowl appearance against Oregon.

Jamail also claimed that Brown had three different head coaching offers presented to him earlier this fall, and that Brown had yet to decide if he would continue coaching. Television has been widely speculated as a possible next venture for Brown as well.

Alabama AD has no comment on Saban-to-Texas

Alabama athletic director Bill Battle has refused to comment on the raging Nick Saban-to-Texas rumors, saying instead that the Tide are only focused on their upcoming bowl game.

The rumors started as soon as reports emerged that longtime Longhorns head coach Mack Brown would not be returning to the school. Texas is thought to be one of the top coaching positions in all of college football despite their lack of recent dominance, and though Saban's Tide have won two straight national titles, the promise of an historic contract could lure college football's top head coach to Austin.

Alabama plays Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl on January 2, while Texas plays Oregon in the Alamo Bowl on December 30. The Tide were the top-ranked team in the nation until their regular season-ending loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
