Gary Pinkel made right decision booting Dorial Green-Beckham from Mizzou

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Pinkel dismissed arguably the best player on his roster on Friday. It was an ugly situation, but he handled it the best way possible.

Dorial Green-Beckham, an All-American candidate in 2014 and a probable first-round pick in 2015, was dismissed from Missouri on Friday following another run-in with the law.

The Internet had a lot of opinions on the dismissal, but there was one common theme from just about everyone: Gary Pinkel and the athletic department made the right decision. Here were some of the national writers' takes on the situation:

Even the most loyal Tiger fans had to know dismissal was likely given Green-Beckham's history with the police. It was a rough day, as you can imagine:

From our Mizzou blog, Rock M Nation:

If nothing else, this indeed sends a ridiculously strong message that when Gary Pinkel, Mike Alden, etc., talk about respect, respect for women, and respect for the university, they mean it. I was hoping there would be a happy ending to this story for him at Missouri, but people who know him very well decided that will not be the case, and it's hard not to respect that. Good luck, Dorial.

And here are some of the reactions from the fans, including one person who thought DBG didn't deserve being kicked off:

Some former Mizzou players also took to Twitter in wake of the dismissal:

Now, it will be business as usual for the Tigers as they prepare to defend their SEC East title in 2014. They will just have do it without a potential All-American lining up alongside first-year starter Maty Mauk.
