Boston College and Boston University face off in the second and third games of their season series this weekend.
Boston College and Boston University will renew the most storied rivalry in college hockey Friday and Saturday evening as the Battle of Commonwealth Avenue wraps up for 2012-13, and a narrative already wrought with storylines will get yet another. If BC sweeps the weekend -- and the season series, in turn -- head coach Jerry York will become the winningest coach in NCAA college hockey history.
York, who sits second to Ron Mason (924 wins) with 923 career wins, would add the honor to his already impressive list of accolades, but his is hardly the only story that anyone will be paying attention to on the weekend. Despite their 10 straight wins, the Eagles have some pressure coming from behind them, as second-ranked UNH returns to New England after a 6-4 win over then-second ranked Denver and has a home-and-home with UMass Lowell.
But those stories will be mere subplots when it comes to the battle on the ice. BU, still without a victory over a ranked conference team, is looking for a signature W to add to its resume, while BC has been largely unstoppable since a season-opening 3-1 loss at Northeastern.
A weekend split would earn BC the season series victory following the 4-2 victory three weeks ago at Agganis Arena with another matchup between the two teams likely looming on the second Monday in February in the Beanpot championship game.
