Boston College and Boston University spent most of the first half of the first period feeling each other out, but once the ice opened up, it was business as usual for the Eagles, who began to take control of the play before some sloppy neutral zone play gave Sahir Gill a breakaway attempt on Parker Milner, who turned the BU forward's attempt away.
BU's aggressive forecheck helped to even the ice in the middle of the period and the Terriers had the two best chances of the middle of the frame, but neither found the back of the net against Milner, the Eagles' senior goaltender.
The ice would continue to open up as the period went on, and interference penalties began to dictate the pace of play in the closing minutes of the period.
After one, Boston College put 18 shots on goal and BU put 14 shots on net, to no avail.
