Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Trevor Bayliss as their new coach for the fifth season of the tournament. He takes on the role after Dav Whatmore resigned from the post because he was pursuing a role as the coach of the Pakistani national cricket team.
Bayliss is a former coach of the Sri Lankan national side. He was at the helm from 2007 to 2011, before quitting at the end of the World Cup last year that Sri Lanka went on to enter the final.
Co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah rukh Khan said that the team was happy to welcome the new coach and hoped that his experience as a former international coach will help take the side to another level.
Bayliss joins the Knight Riders as their third coach after John Buchanan and Whatmore. Buchanan’s tenure with the side had lasted two years as well.
The newly appointed coach said, "I have followed the IPL and KKR's performance and I am honored to become part of this team, which has already built a reputation as a very popular & professional franchise."
Earlier, he was the coach of the New South Wales team and after quitting the Sri Lanka role, he now coaches the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.
