India should finally get some respite from pace as they take on Sri Lanka at the WACA in Perth.
Feb 7, 2012 -
India take on Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the Commonwealth Bank series at Perth. The two sides have had a poor run of form going for them leading up to this game and it will be a match between teams wanting to end that.
The India v Sri Lanka 2nd ODI can be watched live on either Channel Nine in Australia or Star Cricket
The Indians have been on a losing streak on this tour so far, but all their games have been against Australia. They have gone down in four Tests, one T20I and one ODI, winning only a T20I in the process.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka go into the series with their cricket in doldrums – new captain, new coach and a string of poor results have led the side to make some long-standing changes. How the new combination of Mahela Jayawardene and Graham Ford work will, could go a long way in deciding the result of this game and the rest of the series.
Sri Lanka have their issues against the short ball as well and the fast, pacy wickets of Australia rarely suit them. Their record in this country is poor and at WACA in Perth, having won only 2 of their 13 games played here. India, on the other hand, have won three of their nine while one of the games ended in an exciting tie.
Expect a change or two to the Indian side. They looked a seam bowler short at the MCG and against Sri Lanka, who play spin well and at the WACA where the ball does all kinds of things, it will make sense for the side to play an extra seamer.
Sri Lanka will look to get the right combination as far as their batting is concerned, having had a poor time in the ODIs in South Africa. How they see off the new ball will be a key solution to their batting issues.
India should be favourites but only just. Expect a thrilling contest.
