IPL: Delhi Daredevils Beat Deccan Chargers By Nine Wickets
The inexperienced Deccan bowling attack was once again put to the sword, as Warner marked his presence in the IPL with a breathtaking century. The innings propelled favourites Delhi Daredevils to a thumping nine wicket victory against the Chargers.
Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Deccan was well served yet again by the pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Cameron White. Daniel Harris got dismissed in the fifth over itself, and Sangakkara followed six balls later. However, Dhawan was in the zone and was dismantling the opposition bowlers with aplomb. White gave his good support in the 120 run stand. The former had made 84 off 49 balls before he got run out, while the latter scored 65 in 40 balls. The final score of 187 looked challenging. Barring Varun Aaron none of the bowlers made much of a mark.
The attack which was missing Dale Steyn and Rusty Theron would have been expected to be tested to the hilt by a strong batting line-up like that of Delhi. And even though Sehwag got out in the first over off Dhawan, Warner was not in any mood to let the freebies go to waste. He alongwith Naman Ojha, who got promoted to no.3 pummeled the hapless bowlers to all parts of the ground as the target started looking measly. The Australian scored 109 in 54 balls including seven sixes, while Ojha hit five sixes, and just two fours in an innings of 64. Both the batsmen remained undefeated as DD chased down the target in 16.4 overs itself. Except for reserving some respect for Manpreet Gony, all the bowlers were put to the sword.
Deccan would have thought things could not get any worse from what it has already been. Warner and Ojha proved them wrong.
