The second T20 international between Sri Lanka and Pakistan matched the first one in its ebb and flow, only the result was different. Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 23 runs to level the series.
After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat. But soon their innings faltered. Kulasekara bowled a wicket maiden in the third over of innings as his inswinger had Ahmed Shehzad in the plumb in front. Khalid Lattof was then run-out and Lokuarachchi picked up two wickets in his first two overs. Pakistan were reeling at 41 for 4 in the eleventh over when Malik and Afridi came together. The pair then added 68 runs enabled by some sensible batting which involved good running between the wickets and an occasional boundary. Afridi was the more aggressive of the two and Malik played the second fiddle. Afridi reached his 50 off 30 balls in the 20th over of the Pakistan innings as Pakistan reached a total of 122.
Sri Lankan innings never gathered enough momentum but the team looked in the hunt for a better part of it. Yasir Arafat picked up Sangakkara and Kulasekara in the 4th over as Sri Lanka were reduced to 18 for 2. Afridi first over had three huge appeals for LBW before he knocked back Dilshan's stumps. Afridi in tandem with Ajmal bowled tight lines and restrictive lengths and Sri Lankan batsmen looked to push the scoring. Kapugedera hit Afridi for a six in 12th over of innings to relieve some pressure but lost his stumps off the next ball to a straighter one by Afridi. Sri Lanka needed 48 off 36 balls when Chandimal and Thirimanne were at crease. Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Sami then picked up three wickets in the next two overs, with Sami taking 2 to dent severely hopes of Sri Lankan victory. The Sri Lanka innings soon folded for 99 runs giving Pakistan victory.
