The Indian selectors announced the preliminary squad of 30 players for the T20 World Cup to be played in Sri Lanka. The most notable addition to the squad was Yuvraj Singh. The talismanic allrounder who was primarily responsible for India's win at the last ODI World Cup and also the 2007 T20 World Cup makes a return into the fold after fighting off a malignant tumour in his lung.
Yuvraj who was the man of the series during the World Cup, had played through the tournament despite the illness, which got detected only a few months later. The detection of a tumour in his lungs, his treatment against cancer and the subsequent return back to India and the training have been well documented. However, whether he becomes completely fit and hit good form before the World Cup remains to be seen.
The other new face in the side is Ambati Rayudu, the erstwhile Hyderabad player who represents Baroda in the Ranji Trophy and made his name with performances in the IPL over the last few years. Rayudu had long been marked as future international player, but fell off the radar due to issues with his state association and thereafter his defection to the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL). Mandeep Singh, the former India U-19 player and Kings XI Punjab opener impressed one and all during the last IPL and finds himself in the squad too.
