Tour de France 2013 standings: Christopher Froome strengthens hold on yellow jersey

Christopher Froome did not win Wednesday's individual time trial, but his second place finish was more than good enough to distance himself from the rest of the Top 10 of the general classifications standings at the 2013 Tour de France.

Christopher Froome strengthened his grip on the yellow jersey in the 2013 Tour de France with a second-place finish in Wednesday's Stage 11 individual time trial. Though he finished 12 seconds behind stage winner Tony Martin, he opened up an additional two minutes over Alejandro Valverde, his closest competitor on the general classification leaderboard.

Unfortunately, a terrible incident involving Mark Cavendish was the biggest story of the day, not Martin's ride or Froome's march to the final podium. A fan threw urine on Cavendish during his trial run, once again highlighting the sport's pitfall of allowing spectators to stand very close to the course.

Stage 12 of the Tour de France will be a normal stage, running 218 kilometers from Fougeres to Tours. Peter Sagan has a stranglehold on the points classification standings and the green jersey, but other riders may be able to make some headway on the relatively flat ride.
