The yellow jersey changed bodies for a second day in a row.

The first Sunday of the Tour de France began with Mark Cavendish pulling out of the race after injuring his shoulder on Saturday and ended with Vincenzo Nibali claiming a Stage 2 victory and the yellow jersey. Nibali broke away from the pack of riders looking to win with about two kilometers left and beat Peter Sagan by two seconds, who is second overall after two stages.

Stage 2, a medium-mountains stage, contained nine climbs, eight of which were climbs classified as 3s or 4s, the lowest levels. The lone category 2 came at Côte de Holme Moss, which featured a 4.7-kilometer-long climb and was not decisive in determining the winner, as the first ones to cross it did not stay in the hunt for the rest of the stage.

Sagan holds the points and young rider classifications while Britain's Team Sky, which features Chris Froome, has a 12-second lead on Astana Pro Team for the team classification.

Stage 3 on Monday will begin in Cambridge and end in London, concluding the first three days of the Tour's route in the United Kingdom. The remainder of the race will then take place in France.
