Elite 11 Finals: Quarterbacks compete at The Opening 2013

18 quarterbacks have made it to the Elite 11 Finals, but the challenge is just beginning.

The Elite 11 Finals are a five-day quarterback recruit competition taking place at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. This is the culmination of a series of nationwide quarterback camps featuring elite instruction for the top QBs in the country. Only 18 are chosen for the final Elite 11 quarterback competition. SB Nation will provide unparalleled coverage of the Elite 11 event and Nike's The Opening 2013, where the Elite 11 quarterbacks will pair with other elite athletes from across the country.

Campers will receive advanced, one-on-one quarterback instruction from Super Bowl champion Trent Dilfer and other top quarterback coaches. The quarterbacks for Elite 11 QB finals will be selected after thorough film evaluation, a telephone interview and an in-person workout evaluation at either a Nike Football Training Camp and/or an Elite 11 QB regional camp.

From the camp to the league

Notable Elite 11 alumni now in the NFL include:

'99: Matt Cassel
'00: Matt Leinart, Derek Anderson
'01: Vince Young, Drew Stanton, Troy Smith
'02: Trent Edwards, Chris Leak, Andre Woodson, Jamarcus Russel, Dennis Dixon
'03: Rhett Bomar
'04: Mark Sanchez, Chase Daniel
'05: Josh Freeman, Jake Locker, Matthew Stafford, Tim Tebow, Jevan Snead
'06: Ryan Mallet, Tyrod Taylor
'07: Blaine Gabbert, Mike Glennon, Landry Jones, Andrew Luck, EJ Manuel
'08: Geno Smith

Incredibly, 34 of the 105 quarterbacks eligible for the NFL draft since the event's inception in 1999 have gone on to be drafted. At face value, a 33% draft rate might not seem like much, but given all that is required to make the NFL, including many factors outside the control of the quarterback himself, having one of every three campers drafted is a phenomenal accomplishment. An additional 11 have gone on on to play for an NFL team despite going undrafted.
