There may be no European action to keep us entertained through midweek, though fortunately a plethora of domestic cup competitions will do their best to fill the football-shaped hole. In England that responsibility falls upon the Capital One Cup, which may well be the lesser of the FA's two major cup competitions, but it's still one that everyone wants to win,
We're already into the Round of 16, which is late enough that all of the minnows from England's lower divisions have been eliminated already. Only three teams from outside the top flight remain, and they're all drawn from the second tier: Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City and Middlesbrough take on Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United, respectively.
Otherwise, all matches will be fought between Premier League teams, with the pick of them being Chelsea's tough trip to Stoke City. The Blues haven't been able to perform anywhere this season, so they could well find it difficult to raise their game on a cold Tuesday night at the Britannia. Elsewhere, Manchester City will look to get one over on Alan Pardew's high-flying Crystal Palace, while Jürgen Klopp will chase his first win as Liverpool manager at home to Bournemouth.
