Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis and Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB LeGarrette Blount didn’t carry the ball a whole lot during their senior years in college. Hillis spent much of his time blocking for Darren McFadden and Felix Jones, while Blount spectated most of his final season after punching a Boise St. Bronco. But the two big backs have become productive NFL players, and they’re among the early stars of today’s 1 o’clock games.
Hillis entered the league tied for eighth in the NFL in yards from scrimmage and has already put 76 total yards and a touchdown on the New York Jets. Blount, a run-only back with two catches on the year, has rushed for 78 and a score against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hillis has scored in all but one game this year, with Blount behind held off the scoreboard only twice in the games in which he’s played.
