Kansas City Chiefs running back Jackie Battle burst onto the fantasy scene Sunday with great aplomb as he rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries in the Chiefs 28-24 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Battle was slowly being worked into the Chiefs running back rotation the last couple weeks but blew the lid off on Sunday. Thomas Jones finished the game with 55 yards on ten carries as the Chiefs had a great day rushing en route to victory.
A strong performance does not really guarantee Battle a whole lot of much in the world of Todd Haley. Although Jamaal Charles put up dominant performances he was somehow still often handcuffed with Thomas Jones, despite that not making a whole lot of sense at times.
Now the Chiefs have another intriguing running back situation and it really remains to be seen how it will be split. If you picked up Battle before this week he would seem to be a solid bye week start for now. It remains to be seen how consistent he will be, particularly against better teams. However, he could be a solid enough flex fill-in for now. If you've got decent waiver priority, it's worth spending on Battle.
If you have Thomas Jones, you very well could keep starting him since Haley has a penchant for continuing to use him. We'll have more updates on this platoon over the next few days.
