Washington Redskins running back Tim Hightower was limited in practice on Wednesday as he continues to deal with a nagging shoulder injury that cost him significant carries in week four against the St. Louis Rams. Backup Ryan Torain came on in his place and rushed for 135 yards on only 19 carries and earned some plaudits from his coach, Mike Shanahan.
The fact that Hightower is potentially still dealing with this shoulder injury can not bode well for his playing time this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Redskins are coming off a bye week, which should have been more than enough time to get his shoulder healed if it was not a particularly big deal. Instead, he is still ailing and might be in danger of losing more carries.
For now we'll need to assess the situation Thursday and Friday as practice participation reports come out. It would appear as though Ryan Torain is the start this weekend and Hightower should be on your bench, but we will no more as the week progresses. Torain is the hot hand right now and if Hightower is in the least bit limited, it would not surprise me at all to see Shanahan ride the hot hand.
