Cam Newton Fantasy Update: Quiet First Half For Newton

Stay connected with SB Nation

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has 126 yards passing through the first half against Atlanta. Newton is 11 for 17 with one interception.

What does Cam Newton have that Tom Brady, Calvin Johnson, and Adrian Peterson don't? More fantasy points by most standard scoring systems.

In fact, of the entire NFL, only Aaron Rodgers currently ranks higher than the Panthers rookie sensation. Through the first five weeks of the season, Newton was a revelation for Carolina. He has passed for 1,610 yards and 7 touchdowns, while tacking up an additional 5 trips to the end zone on the ground.

Even when he doesn't put up 300+ yards, Newton provides rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. A rushing quarterback has a considerable amount of value given how much easier it is to accumulate points for rushing. It makes him an absolute fantasy force.
