Matt Stafford played a pretty good game today, but it was not enough to help his team avoid their first loss of the season. Stafford completed 28 of 50 passes for two touchdowns and 293 yards against the 49ers. For the first time this season he did not connect with wide receiver Calvin Johnson for a touchdown pass.
A healthy Stafford has been outstanding for the Lions this season, throwing 1,436 yards and 13 touchdowns through the NFL's first five weeks. He has taken remarkably good care of the ball as well, throwing just four interceptions on the year. As long as he has Calvin Johnson by his side (29 catches, 451 yards, 9 touchdowns), Stafford should continue to be a solid fantasy starter.
Stafford ranked seventh in Yahoo! Sports' fantasy rankings heading into Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers. If injury issues don't rear their ugly head again, Stafford should keep paying off solid dividends for owners.
