Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had to provide a lot of big throws Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals, but he made them count all day long. Big Ben completed 26 of 39 passes for 361 yard and three touchdowns. His 361 yards led all quarterbacks on Sunday.
Roethlisberger is a solid enough quarterback, so big numbers against bad teams does not shock people. However, this performance continues to reinforce is the notion that the Arizona Cardinals secondary is not particularly good. They were burned on a monster Mike Wallace play and generally were run ragged by the Steelers passing game.
As you look to coming weeks, if you have a bye situation, do what you can to find a quarterback opposing the Cardinals. For example, if you have Drew Brees on your team, the Saints bye week is week 11. The San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals that week. Alex Smith is not a guy most people would have on their fantasy roster, let along start each week. However, in Candlestick against the Cardinals, I think Smith could put up some respectable fantasy numbers with a modest amount of upside. Simply something to consider as the season moves along.
