The Minnesota Vikings came up just short in their upset bid against the Green Bay Packers, but they had plenty of high moments worthy of praise. Rookie QB Christian Ponder struggled at times but showed veteran savvy late as he attempted to bring team back from a 16-point deficit. He came up just short as the defense could not stop the Packers on the final drive, but it was a good learning experience.
In Christian Ponder's big moments, he focused in on a couple receivers. He targeted wide receiver Michael Jenkins and tight end Visanthe Shiancoe eight times each. Shianco brought in four passes for 45 yards, while Jenkins hauled in three passes for 111 yards. It is only one week of action, but strong performances like that will only help build Ponder's confidence.
Michael Jenkins has put together some solid numbers throughout his career, but has never been able to break through to the next level. He has struggled to maintain consistency in 2011 but will look to build on this performance in week eight when the Vikings travel to face the Carolina Panthers. At this point, Jenkins is an intriguing bye week fill-in, but otherwise it would be a fairly basic roll of the dice if you wanted to make a move for him.
