Mark Ingram Injury Update: Fantasy Implications Of His Out Status

Stay connected with SB Nation

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams, costing Ingram owners a fantastic fantasy matchup. Ingram bruised his heel on Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts and will be inactive on Sunday.

In place of Ingram, the Saints will mix and match Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas in the backfield. Thomas will likely get a lot of the carries between the 20s, while Sproles will get most of the third down carries and a host of red zone carries. I would argue both are solid starts this weekend against a Rams defense that was shredded by DeMarco Murray last week.

This might be going a bit overboard, but if you have both Thomas and Sproles and are short a running back this weekend, you might actually want to start both running backs against the Rams. That is not exactly a common move, but there are occasionally matchups where it makes sense. This is one such matchup.
