One cannot expect a rookie quarterback to be scoring touchdowns week-in and week-out, even if the player is No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton. On Saturday, the Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback completed 23 of 40 passes for 212 yards, but he had zero touchdowns to go with his one interception. He was the team's leading rusher wit 55 yards on seven carries.
Newton was not expected to be outstanding on Sunday -- at least through the air -- after being added to the injury report late in the week with a shoulder injury. There were actually reports that he would be on a sort of "pitch count," though the actual number of throws he was expected to attempt was never published.
The Titans certainly had their work cut out for them on Sunday as Newton had thrown for 11 touchdowns and rushed for seven more in the red zone -- a rookie record he's already broken once this season.
