Vernon Davis had five receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's win over the Arizona Cardinals. He was targeted 10 times during the win, a season high. The performance was all the more impressive consider the up-and down performance from Alex Smith.
Davis has had trouble matching his fantastic Week 3 performance during which he caught eight passes for 114 yards. He did not have more than four receptions in any game prior to this week's game against the Cardinals. With five touchdowns on the season, all in the last seven games, Davis makes up for his lack of receptions with his prowess in the red zone.
Davis came into the week ranked as the fifth best fantasy tight end according to Fake Teams. If he can maintain his effectiveness near the goal line, he should be continue to be one of the better options at a position with plenty of drop-off between the elite and the rest of the pack.
