Following a week of not practicing, the Oakland Raiders surprised nobody on Friday by ruling running back Darren McFadden out for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. McFadden has been struggling to return from a sprained foot suffered two weeks ago against the Kansas City Chiefs. He has been on crutches for much of the last two weeks and will need at least another week to return, if not more.
Michael Bush will get the start on Sunday and likely carry the bulk of the load. Taiwan Jones will operate as his backup but will be nothing more than a change of pace back. After McFadden went down against the Chiefs, Bush received most of the carries with Jones getting in for three rushes and one reception on two targets. He might get a few more touches this week, but Bush is the guy.
In replacing McFadden two weeks ago, Bush rushed for 99 yards on 17 carries. He is one of the best backup running backs in the league and should put together a solid day against the Denver Broncos. The Raiders still have question marks about their passing attack, but Bush provides them with solid punch on the ground.
