The Dallas Cowboys suffered a tough loss to the New York Giants Sunday evening as they blew a 34-22 lead en route to a 37-34 loss. Even worse, the Cowboys saw running back DeMarco Murray go down with a broken ankle in the first quarter, effectively ending what had been a strong rookie season.
The Cowboys reinserted Felix Jones into the starting lineup in place of Murray and Jones responded with a strong showing. Jones rushed for 106 yards and hauled in six passes for 31 yards. Jones had been dealing with a high ankle sprain for much of the season before returning last week in a limited role against the Arizona Cardinals.
Jones will fill the starting running back role moving forward as the Cowboys are running out of backs. They will likely sign one or two free agent running backs, but Jones is the guy heading into the final stretch run. This is a potential high impact lineup change with fantasy football playoffs in full swing. The Cowboys travel to Tampa Bay next week to face an inconsistent Bucs defense.
