The Minnesota Vikings came up just short on Sunday as they fell to the Detroit Lions 34-28. The Vikings fell behind big early as they trailed 28-7 at one point, but they were able to battle back and turn the game into a fairly competitive contest. In coming back so strong, they put Toby Gerhart in a position to have a solid day. Gerhart finished the day with 90 rushing yards and 19 receiving yards.
This is potentially his last start of the season as Adrian Peterson will likely be back in the starting lineup next week against the New Orleans Saints. Peterson was able to return to practice in a limited capacity and he made the trip to Detroit and worked out a bit before the game. It is not a guarantee he will be back next week, but given his extended work this week, it is a strong step forward.
Where this gets sticky for Adrian Peterson owners is the fact that we might see a bit of a rotation depending on how Peterson feels for the game. That is as frustrating as anything given that we could see one good to great running back situation turned into a pair of average or worse situations for this week. We will have to see how the Vikings play this over the coming week.
